TCC has a High School Completion Program. This is exclusive to Washington where international students can receive their WA State high school diploma and their associate degree at the same time. The college classes also serve towards their high school required courses. This is a very popular program with our SE Asia students, especially in Vietnam. In this way, students can come to TCC at age 16 or 17 before they finish their national high school, and then graduate from TCC with a dual degree in saving time and money.

Students with a 70 TOEFL or 6.0 IELTS will be granted direct entry into college-level English 101. For students who do not have this minimum English proficiency test score, TCC has its own English placement test run by our English for Academic Purposes (EAP) department. Students take the EAP test during orientation and then placed either in EAP Level 1 (low beginner) – 5 (high). There is no failing the EAP test.

About Community Colleges

There are more than 1,200 community colleges in the United States which offer the first two years of study after high school. They represent over 40 percent of all higher education establishments in the United States. Most community colleges are public and are funded by local taxes. Many of them are urban and do not have dormitories on their campuses.

More than half the nation's undergraduates study at community colleges to complete their first two years of university study. They choose to study at community colleges because they can receive personal attention from their instructors, the tuition is less expensive, and the class sizes are smaller than in a university setting.

Community colleges usually have arrangements with universities so that the credits students earn during their two years of study at the community college are easily transferable to allow students to finish the last two years of their four-year Bachelor's degree at a university of their choice.
